Minecraft Legends is a new action-strategy game from Mojang Studios and Blackbird Interactive set in the Minecraft Universe. With a co-op and a solo story-driven campaign, PvP supporting 4v4 in procedurally generated maps, it's coming to PC, Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S), PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch on April 18, 2023. It's also coming on day one to Xbox Game Pass.

As part of today's Xbox and Bethesda Developer_Direct we got a good look at the PvP, which features the aforementioned and very cool procedurally generated maps, PvE exploration, fighting for resources, base building, and combat. It's a mix of styles presented in a genuinely cool way and makes full use of the Minecraft universe.

Within the story-driven campaign, players can explore a world filled with treasures and perils, reunite with familiar mobs, meet new mysterious characters, and strategize with allies in epic battles against the piglins. Minecraft Legends will also introduce a PvP mode where two teams of up to four players each work together to collect resources, build a base, and lay siege to the opposing team’s forces.

“It’s not like your traditional multiplayer situation where you have a set few maps. Every time you go to play PvP, the strategy that you want to use to win could be different than it was the game before,” Minecraft Legends Executive Producer Dennis Ries says. “When we had the added this procedurally generated dynamic with the variety, it really started to feel like Minecraft. The chaotic fun really shone through and we wanted to embrace that chaos.”

“Every game is a new scene, and there’s different environmental challenges,” Blackbird Interactive Producer Lee Pederson explains. “So when building your base, you can take advantage of being on a mountaintop for example, or build a tower behind one to hide it. You’re going to have to really tune your strategy based on what the world is generating for you.”

And with that Minecraft resources like Redstone, Diamond, and Iron offer up different units and upgrades to build - which definitely sounds a lot like a third-person action-RTS. And for that reason alone, we're super keen to jump in -and play it like an on-the-ground version of StarCraft or Warcraft. With added Creepers, Skeletons, Zombies, and Piglins. And the ability to build giant traps and towers.

You can see the full Minecraft Legends presentation in the Xbox and Bethesda Developer_Direct below - starting at around the 2-minute mark.

Minecraft Legends launches April 18 on Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, Windows 11/10 PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
