"Action and atmosphere" is synonymous now with FromSoftware -- developer behind the ultra-popular Souls series of games as well as Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. But before those games the studio dabbled in the world of mechs and mech combat, and this year it will be launching Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon and it's looking very good.
A mysterious new substance called “Coral” was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, it caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System. Almost half a century later, Coral has resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe. Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themselves in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions. The trailer says it all. This isn't just a game about battling mechs, it's an intense and atmospheric world of man and machine with hints of an in-depth and likely very convoluted Japanese-writ story, and we honestly can't wait. Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon is landing this August 25 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Stay tuned for more as we have it. |
