What do you guys recommend. Looking at Symantec ghost and others you need license for each computer you are going to use.
We are going to buy 10 laptops exactly the same, with down the track another 40. I want to be able to put all windows updates and the programs which need to be used and do image of that. What is the best/cheap way to do this? |
Hey Dodgymon which program do recommend from the Hiren's Boot CD??
|
Not the cheapest option but worth looking into SCCM. SCCM 2012 beta2 is available free to download from memory.

Best way would be something like Shadowprotect IT Edition, but it's definitely not the cheapest.
If you're using Volume Licensing for the OS and Office suites, you could use something like DriveImageXML to take the snapshot, then you'd just have to change the system names and run NewSID on each of them after the image has been deployed. You can still do this without Volume Licensing, but you'll need to install Office without a key and then manually input the serial key into each one manually. If you're using OEM licensing for the OS, you'll need to run SysPrep before you take the snapshot so that you can input the product activation keys manually. Hit me up if you need more help. |
Thanks for the info Gestheme will hit ya up for more info... ATM they are 6 Dell Laptops with Windows 7 and Office 2010 and we not using Volume Licensing.

Acronis Snap Deploy. SCCM will do your head in, forget it. Dell KACE is awesome but not for 10 Laptops haha :)
|
Acronis or norton's from hiren's is your cheap option but not neccessarily the best because it has to be done outside of the OS.

Isn't the stuff on Hiren's CD illegal?
|
all good just going to use sysprep tool with windows 7 :)
