hey team. got this error msg driving me mad. i'm out of luck with google (may be my s*** googling skills) and my work IT don't know what to do. it doesn't actually stop me working, i can click the ok button and everything is fine. but f*** it's annoying. happens every time i start outlook.
OS - Windows XP Pro (work laptop get off my case) Office 2007 Pro suite Error msg verbatim "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. A program error occurred. Quite Outlook and Microsoft Windows and then start again." can anyone help me? |
from what I can find with a quick google, it sounds like the *.pst file may be corrupt.
Have a look fior the inbox repair tool, (scanpst.exe). There are several KB's on MS.com, also have a look here they seem to have a few things to have a look at. http://www.outlookpst-repair.com/windows-xp-inbox-repair-tool.php Hope this helps, otherwise Im out of ideas. |
thanks mate I'll start there. your google skills are much better than mine
|
go into control panel
go into mail create a new outlook profile, use it as default temporarily if that resolves the problem, there's something wrong with your configuration if not, then outlook is corrupt, do a detect and repair, if not a complete reinstall perhaps not the cleanest method but almost always a sure-fire way to fix just about any outlook issue |
thx hardy will try that.
knew you guys would come through, best help desk ever! |
Hey CrazyMorton
Did you get the problem solved??? |
Hey CrazyMorton no i didn't. i tried all the suggestions, I have tried the following have run scanost and scanpst have created a new profile and started outlook in this i even deleted my .pst and an archive .pst all to no avail, I'm stumped |
Sorry, just tried another google, but its all just variations on the same thing, or wrong OS/Outlook.
Hope you get it sorted soon. |
I think it's Outlook reinstall time.
|
Do you have any addons installed? I had an issue once, (can't remember what it was exactly) but it turned out to be an Avast outlook addon causing issues.
Odds are its not the case, but maybe worth a quick check anyways. |
start outlook from the run box on the start menu using
outlook.exe -resetnavpane that will usually fix the problem |
Tried deleting extend.dat from the \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook ?
|
start outlook from the run box on the start menu using that's looking promising, 3 restarts tried so far and no error msg. going to totally shut down now and restart. hopefully it sticks. i should also mention when i first started typing in this text it looks like my IT had tried it (i gave them my laptop for a day when i was in Melb recently) however they had outlook.exe /resetnavpane i ran that with no luck then changed the / to - and it's looking ok. will report back after the restart |
bugger. got the msg. trying hermi's option now f*** this is annoying |
