Back in the day, the 1990s, playing console games in Australia on a TV meant playing in the PAL 50Hz format. With NTSC 60Hz being the TV style found in the U.S. and Japan a lot of PAL releases weren't optimised so they ran slower, had borders, and were generally inferior. But hey, as youngsters we didn't know any better. So it's good to see PlayStation giving us the option to play classic games - in their original format.

With the all-new PlayStation Plus available in Australia, with three tier offerings - Essential, Extra, and Deluxe, it's Deluxe that offers up downloadable titles from the original PlayStation era. Plus PS2 and even PSP. The downside? We got the PAL 50Hz versions when the service launched yesterday. The upside? Sony is looking to rectify the situation.

Which is great news for fans of retro gaming and old-school '90s polygons - it'll make that Ape Escape replay a lot more enjoyable. Modern TVs are designed primarily for 60Hz content when it comes to games too, so it's definitely the right mode. No word on when the NTSC editions will be added, but this is great news for those opting into the PlayStation Plus Deluxe tier.
