EDU: How to link correctly

Part 1: Linking Properly
Due to people not being able to correctly post links, and the obligatory flaming that comes with it... Here is how to link properly.

<a href="address">text for link

eg. <a href="http://www.qgl.org">QGL</a>

See, its really not hard, is it?
You can get very technical, using targets (telling it where to open the link) but I think as long as people can make a basic link, the majority will be satisfied.

Part 2: Posting images

Once you have your image hosted, to link to it, you use this code...

eg. <a href="http://ad2.pamedia.com.au/images/ausgamers/ausgamers1.gif" rel="nofollow" class="imgLink">http://ad2.pamedia.com.au/images/ausgamers/ausgamers1.gif</a>

There are width and height settings that you can use to reduce how large the image is. The code looks like this...

Its a good idea to keep the reduced dimensions in proportion to the original image.

Part 3: Thumbnails
You can also combine the two to get a link with a thumbnail. (Booyah) There are two ways of doing this, the first is a the easy way, and it has no "download size" benifit, because the user has already downloaded the full image, just its only displaying at a certain size... but it does allow you to post an image and not take up the entire page.

This is the syntax: <a href="url of pic"></a>

eg. <a href="http://ad2.pamedia.com.au/images/ausgamers/ausgamers1.gif"><a href="http://ad2.pamedia.com.au/images/ausgamers/ausgamers1.gif" rel="nofollow" class="imgLink">http://ad2.pamedia.com.au/images/ausgamers/ausgamers1.gif</a>

The other way of linking with a thumbnail is the real way, where you use a low quality, resized version saved as a seperate file for the thumbnail, and the full image for the link. Its basically the same code, just in the img tag, you use the url of the reduced size image, rather than the original and you don't need the width and height tags, because hopefully your thumb is already resized.

This is the syntax: <a href="url of pic"></a>

eg. <a href="http://ad2.pamedia.com.au/images/ausgamers/ausgamers1.gif"><a href="http://ad2.pamedia.com.au/images/ausgamers/ausgamers1_thumb.gif" rel="nofollow" class="imgLink">http://ad2.pamedia.com.au/images/ausgamers/ausgamers1_thumb.gif</a></a>

This is readily available information, you can read and learn how to do it yourself... W3Schools

Kat, its great that a lot of people do know how to link, but I'm so sick of people posting links to news.com.au and me having to copy/paste them because of their lack of skill.

" matters, ' is not valid in that context. Yeah, most things will parse it, doesn't mean it's right though.
