Tony Hawk 4 for PC/Mac? [2 Comments]
Posted by: trog at 10:49am

From: AusGamers News

Aspry Media, long-time porters of games to the Macintosh, have updated their website with word that they'll be bringing the hit console game Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 to the PC and Macintosh. Not too much word on what will be different, except and "enhanced career mode", but good news nonetheless for PC/Mac gamers who wanted to have a bash at this very cool action sports title.

Microsoft vs Google [20 Comments]

From: AusGamers News

Yahoo! have this interesting item which seems to indicate Microsoft want to make a move into the Internet searching market:
"We do view Google more and more as a competitor. We believe that we can provide consumers with a better product and a better user experience. That's something that we're actively looking at doing," Bob Visse, director of marketing for Microsoft's MSN Internet services division, said.
I tell you what, it'd take a pretty awesome service before I'd stop use Google. How much better could it get!

GameServe SIEGE! [7 Comments]
Posted by: MrWolf at 12:48am

From: QGL News

1 Hotel, 2 Days, 300 Gamers, $1000's in Cash and Prizes... it's time for another SIEGE.

After QGL I think this is the biggest QLD LAN, and this year it's gonna be even bigger than ever. The comps will include CS, TFC, Q3, War3, Raven-Shield and heaps more! There's even talk of a PS2 Rally Challenge featuring a "time girl" *cough*model*cough*, but ssssshhhh, don't tell everyone or there won't be any spaces left.

And for those wanting to make an event of it, the prices for Hotel rooms are $120 per night, twin share. If you TELL them there are more ppl in your room they'll charge you extra, if you dont... :p

Check out the re-furbed GS site at www.gameserve.com.au for all the details.

Jedi Knight 3 / Galaxies News [7 Comments]
Posted by: teen at 09:02am

From: AusGamers News

Games Domain did an interview with Activision producer Graham Fuchs, designer Jon Zuk, and Raven Software co-founder and JKIII project lead, Steve Raffel about Jedi Knight III (working title).
You can create your own character who is a student at the Jedi Academy training to become a Jedi Knight, so you're going to work with Kyle and Luke. As you saw in Episode 1, the Jedi train by going out in the field, with more experienced Jedi, and working various missions. That's the loose structure of what the player is going to be doing. All these missions form a larger story that will flow through the entire game.

They go on to talk about the gameplay, engine, mod community, and features of the game.

As for Star Wars Galaxies, they officially started Beta 3:
We will be inviting 5000 new people by Friday (go easy on those F5 keys). The NDA is still in place. We’ll let you know when it has been lifted. We will be adding more people next week and the week after. We would like to ramp up to 50,000 by early May. The process is mostly random, but we will still hand pick people who we think would make good testers from these forums. We do not have an official release date yet, but will inform you as soon as we do. (We would like to get little bit into Beta 3 first so we can be confident of any date we give you).

BF1942 Expansion [25 Comments]
Posted by: trog at 11:28am

From: AusGamers News

The upcoming Battlefield 1942 expansion, Secret Weapons of World War 2, has been officially announced. A few screenshots have been released, showing off some of the action - check them out in our archive. The release date is only listed as "Fall 2003" (US), so no specifics as yet.

Some commentary, it will be interesting to see what happens with Battlefield 1942 in the long term. Instead of going the "open architecture" that allow many other modern FPS games to remain so popular for so long thanks to the easy addition of user-based content, it is pretty obvious that Dice and EA are keeping this as close to their chest as possible in order to milk the mission packs for all their worth. Mods like Desert Combat are a great example of what people are still able to do with this engine and according to rumours this will probably become a commercial add-on. Will it be another mission pack though?

Blizzard Plays More Hardball [22 Comments]
Posted by: trog at 11:52pm

From: AusGamers News

Battle.net is carrying word of Blizzard's heavy-handed (and appreciated, I'm sure) stance on cheating:
Numerous additional accounts and CD keys were tied to the use of a hack or cheat program while playing Warcraft III or Diablo II on Battle.net. In keeping with our aggressive stance against hacks and cheats, we have permanently closed over 12,000 Warcraft III accounts and over 131,000 Diablo II accounts. We have also banned over 7,000 CD keys from ladder play for one month and banned over 1,000 Warcraft III CD keys from ladder play permanently. Please note that repeat offenders risk having their CD keys disabled, which results in permanent removal from Battle.net for their copies of Warcraft III or Diablo II.
That's some good stuff, there. Props to Blizzard for keeping it safe! Check out Battle.net for more information.

From: AusGamers Files

A new trailer showing off some of the action from the upcoming massively multiplayer first person shooter from Verant/Sony, PlanetSide, was released the other day and is now available for grabbage locally from AusGamers Files. The footage shows a bunch of very Tribes-esque gameplay action. Check out the official site for more information.

As this is much more of a traditional FPS than any other MMO game to date, latency will obviously play an important role. It will definitely be interesting to see how this is handled upon the release of the game.

Copyright Act Changes [0 Comments]
Posted by: trog at 01:11pm

From: AusGamers News

From natslovR: The Democrats have sided with the Government in regards to ammendments to the Copyright Act to allow parallel importation of software. To get the Democrats to agree to these measures to stop software import companies abusing their monopoly powers the government had to do some reworking of the ammendmant and remove the book publishing industry from the changes.
"The Government has put forward amendments that would make it easier to prove ownership of software copyright, has provided for additional damages for flagrant copyright violation, and has increased the jurisdiction of the Federal Magistrates Service with regard to copyright matters."
The legislation should be/(have been) voted on by parliament tonight /(last night). Check out this Australian IT article for more information.

It is an incredibly detailed game which covers the majority of key battles in Europe from the invasion of Poland and France in 1939-40 through to the war on the Eastern front and the D-Day landings to the fall of Germany in 1945.
