heh. what does that have to do with the nbn apart from they are both internet delivery methods? go hassle your isp. |
well, there always has to be someone at the end. what is your solution? |
heh. what does that have to do with the nbn apart from they are both internet delivery methods? Considering the plan is for Telstra to turn off the copper network and move everything to the NBN, quite a bit. I can't see any further spending on ADSL infrastructure. |
Exactly, this NBN is a disincentive to further investment by any other ISP.
|
Exactly, but either way it has nothing to do with NBNco and everything to do with his current ISP chosing not to invest in further infrastucture. |
Exactly, this NBN is a disincentive to further investment by any other ISP. FYI, the NBN is a lastmile alternative to copper, an ISP is alot more than the last mile, and if the NBN means that the ISP's can concentrate on better things like faster/cheaper international bandwidth and value-add services like proper IPTV, game servers, content mirrors etc, than thats a good thing. At the moment we can have 3 0r 4 ISPS having duplicate ADSL2 services in one exchange, and down the road, no alternative other than telstra hardware. |
what is your solution? largest uptake areas first? ie, if 5000 homes will connect at one POP and 1000 will connect at another POP in the sticks, doesn't it make more sense both financially and from a happy-customer point of view to give it to the 5000 people first |
heh. who is to say the 99% of the 5000 who are already getting 5mbits aren't already happy? where as the 50% 1000 stuck on pairgains or no dsl are unhappy about it and nbn will make them smile? |
heh. who is to say the 99% of the 5000 who are already getting 5mbits aren't already happy? Bingo, give this man the non-existent prize. |
Bingo, give this man the non-existent prize. I started the thread, therefore hold the prizes .. here .. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w277/famsar/Cooke.jpg |
there are plenty of people who are very close to ADSL2+ areas that are in fact stuck on RIM/Pair gain
in some cases you might be able to get adsl2+ but your neighbours across the road can't get anything because of pair gain I just don't see why you wouldn't roll it out to areas where the populous is more dense first country folk get free (install) satellite as it is, there are city folk who can't get speeds that farmers can get |
I just don't see why you wouldn't roll it out to areas where the populous is more dense first Well they are 'test' sites, so you want to spread it wide (over the country) but not have too many people using it to make it easier to diagnose and deal with faults without affecting a lot of people. Their roll-out strategy is sound IMO. Pity their prior planning and planning transparency hasn't been. |
^ My house next please. 100Mbits would be nice. ISP Level filter optional. Thank you Mr Conroy.
|
They could roll it out next to my house times ten, I still won't vote Labor.
|
I have 6 pc's/laptops/phones/xboxs stuck using the one adsl1 line.
I deserve to be rolled out first. |
my connection sucks....
http://www.speedtest.net/result/871633524.png atm... not like some though.... |
come on wooooooooooooodridge
|
because the NBN isn't about logic, its about equality, In that case places without ADSL2 should get the NBN first. The ones left behind in adsl1 land should come first. |
NoLogic wins a cookie!
Victoria - Bacchus Marsh, South Morang (Melbourne); from here. |
WOOOOT!!!! Now gotta just hope it's my area in Toowoomba
|
Hmm... these are along the lines of being logical! Where is the real NBN Co and their apparent random selection method? Vic Park - Has already been partially built by Bright Communications in partnership with Western Power a few years back. Geraldton - Being connected up by the recent government funded regional connectivity projects Mandurah - Telstra only exchanges which all have known backhaul issues |
theres a map of the sites being covered here

so are they phycicaly cabling between those locations? HUH??? of course they wouldnt run a new cable just between those spots, they most likely use existing fibre backhaul to a regional/state pop. Specialy now that telstras onboard, im pretty sure telstra would have fibre going to 90% if not all exchanes by now. |
FYI, the NBN is a lastmile alternative to copper, an ISP is alot more than the last mile Yes but his point was the lack of a last mile. As awesome as the tech might before the NBN when its finished it a long way from that. He would have been happier to have ADSL2 tomorrow rather than FTTP in 5 years time. |
Well, he's already been waiting four years for ADSL2+. No ISP has done the necessary upgrades. Why would tomorrow be any different?
|
So, I'm wondering what happens to people that have the NBN already rolled out to them if Tony Abbot & crew win the federal election and scrap the project?
|
I just don't see why you wouldn't roll it out to areas where the populous is more dense firstThey are. We call the dense bogans, and they are getting it first! |
looks like my place is in that area. how long is this clusterf*** supposed to take to roll out?
|
My house is inside that blurry red line. Is there an image that has a more clearly defined boundary?
|
Meh stop b****ing look at this poop

|
I'm rolling inside the red line too rofs what bracken ridge isn't even on that map |
