a mate sent me this pretty cool link: qld online police scanner they have currently blocked off an area around here and are tracking down a man with a gun. pretty interesting |

Its amazing in this day and age they use unencrypted radio, I know brisbane is encrypted now.

flogged a motorbike from kallangur -> crashed it into a ute at caboolture -> people got out to help -> pulled out a rifle on two birds in a late model charade -> charade found burnt out in a paddock -> gunman bolted and is now in school at caboolture, cops are blocking off the daguilar hwy and sending in PSRT & the dogs to hunt him down rite? |

yeah i have had this for a while.. there is also an app for the iphone that uses this feed too, its called 5-0 scanner, costs $2.50

Pretty interesting listening, one things that seems crazy to me, they have to call out there positions all the time.
Why dont they have GPS? A smartphone with GPS software can upload its position and the cost is f***all. Why wouldnt they have something like this? Also, one of the police officers was on foot and have to ask for directions?, they cant give him a f***en iphone (or a HTC desire even). Seems crazy. Also is it legal to listen in on police scanners? If someone knew this guy and wanted to help him, they could be listening to this and know the exact position of all the police as they just did a radio call of all there positions. |

no, very little really. But Im at home using the house wifi right now so its not an issue. I'm listening to the same feed as these guys.

pretty sure the CBD channels are the only encrypted ones at this stage for Brisbane

What I got from listening to the police scanner for several hours is that they spend most of the time figuring out were they are and were the other cops are and then a bit more time repeating themselves because of s***** radios.
They just didnt seem real organised. |
