It's been called "The Double" by its creators, but the new bunless burger from KFC doesn't just have twice the usual serve of fried chicken, it also has an unhealthily high amount of kilojoules and fat, nutritionists say. I will try one. I think like anything moderation is the key. Stinky made a thread nearly a year ago about this burger and gave it a big thumbs up. |
http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2011/03/just-how-bad-is-the-kfc-double-for-your-health/
It actually has less fat and kilojoules than both the Big Mac and the Whopper. There's a fair bit of sodium though. |
got an email abou tthis today.
i'll let you guys try it first |
I don't have a post in the "OMG I'm a fat c***" thread because I'm fit and healthy.
Won't be trying this. |
Ever eaten KFC in the States? You'd regret it. It's some sweet smelling fat, marinated in chicken. It's all downhill from the first bite.
|
The burger, which will be sold across Australia for four weeks from tomorrow |
I'm fit and healthy and still actually know how to enjoy life, so I will be trying this.
|
oh yeah lunch after work tomorrow =]
dunno about the sauce tho |
I'm fit and healthy and still actually know how to enjoy life, so I will be trying this. This defines who does, and doesn't enjoy life? F*** me, I've been happy for all the wrong reasons. |
This defines who does, and doesn't enjoy life? F*** me, I've been happy for all the wrong reasons. but that's not what he said |
I'm surprised the McGriddle hasn't appeared in Oz yet.
I'd heard of it but never knew what it was till I tried one here in Canada. S*** is crazy... pretty much a bacon/sausge and egg mcmuffin... buuuut with pancakes instead of the english muffin. All the burgers come in doubles here too, I must say double cheeseburgers do kick ass on the way home from a night out on the town :) |
dont they have some burger over there with cripsy cream donuts instead of the bread aswell?
just saw the add for this, looks like i might have to try this |
Yeah I beleive so, I'll have to go investigate.
Subway here has some new chicken sub too, devil chicken or something along those lines. From the picture it kinda looked like KFC strips in a sub probably with some hot chilli sauce. The majority of the fast food here is almost the same as the US and is f*****g horrendous. Most of the Wendy's burgers are rediculously horrible. We did the Triple Baconator challenge one night after drinks... the aftermath from the other end of that was pretty bad :P Bun | Beef | Bacon | Cheese/Sauce | Beef | Bacon | Cheese/Sauce | Beef | Bacon | Cheese/Sauce | Bun |
All the burgers come in doubles here too, I must say double cheeseburgers do kick ass on the way home from a night out on the town :)Pretty sure if you just ask they'll make it a double here. |
Yeah but they are standard menu items here.
I think a double cheese here costs $1.38 a pop. On those nights where my judgement is somewhat impaired I usually make a quad :P I gotta say I miss Twisties though... nothing like that here :( last edited by rubba-chikin at 17:34:50 29/Mar/11 |
rofl sc00bs, what your thinking of are bagels not crispy creams.
|
That is both disgusting, and makes me want to go get some krispy kremes, if they weren't so over-priced.
|
No it is indeed real... sadly enough :/
I've seen the ad on some of the US TV channels. I think it's more of a promotional thing as I can't see it on the offical menus. If you google donut burger there's accounts of previous promotions. Krispy Kreme had one for a while. Actually I'm pretty sure I saw it on Man Vs Food, some baseball stadium in the US sells them. last edited by rubba-chikin at 17:47:33 29/Mar/11 |
Damn, that burger would fit exactly into my daily intake today to fill out cals and fats.
|
I'm surprised the McGriddle hasn't appeared in Oz yet. Yeah, they have them in Japan too. I didn't know what it was, so I just went with the usual, but my girlfriend got it and I tried a bit. F*****g awesome. |
I thought the maccas brick was bad. Imagine that trying to escape your ass.
|
I thought the maccas brick was bad. Imagine that trying to escape your ass. learn to digest noob. |
Make sure you have a Diet Coke after so you dont get any extra calories.
Has anyone tried the Sweet Potato fries at KFC yet ? The old man got a Wagyu Beef Sub other day and said it was pretty good. Devil Chicken sub sounds good. |
The old man got a Wagyu Beef Sub other day and said it was pretty good. Its got a decent quantity of fat (for a subway meat choice) so it tastes damn good. Atleast the protein content is also high. As for the new KFC burger; they swapped crappy carbs in the bread for protein+fat in the chicken - who cares. Fat and cal wise Its nothing compared to something like double quarter pounder or that massive HJs burger. |
Make sure to have that diet coke with the Wagyu sub since it has almost the exact same calories and fat as the double down... unless you get a foot long in which case it's almost double.
|
Make sure to have that diet coke with the Wagyu sub since it has almost the exact same calories and fat as the double down... unless you get a foot long in which case it's almost double. Wrong dude. From memory the 6" wagyu has like 20g fat that includes cheese and the tomato relish. The KFC is like 50-100% more. http://www.subway.com.au/info/our_menu/nutritional_information/ And IMO only fatties get foot long subs, there are very few people that need that quantity of carbs for lunch. 6" with double roast chicken FTW. |
Wrong dude The OP has the nutritional information. http://www.kfc.com.au/nutrition/documents/Nutrition-Information-KFC-Double-National-Promo.pdf Link on KFC's website. |
I only knew the stats of the zinger but you're right, the original one is pretty similar. My mistake.
|
Girls eat 6" subs
I need 12" to satisfy me. |
Girls eat 6" subs Spoken like a true fattie. |
Today Tonight claims the Wagyu foot long is the same Calories as the KFC double-down.
|
^Shad and i just argued about that. Basically the same fat+cal in the original double down and the 6" wagyu but the zinger has more cal and about double fat. For subway meat i reckon the 2x roast chicken slab on 6" is the best nutrition wise.
|
I'd like to know TT came up with those figures. No footlong will come close to 500 cals. Bread alone has to be about 300-400 at a guess.
|
I need 12" to satisfy me talk about leaving yourself wide open.....where do i start :-) "so i've heard" "so does your mum" "is that orally or analy?" carry on sorry couldn't resist :0 |
I'd like to know TT came up with those figures. No footlong will come close to 500 cals. Bread alone has to be about 300-400 at a guess. TT f***ed up. They would have used the 6" stats which we have already discussed but somehow said footlong. F***wits. |
Just had one of these tonight and for the $9 they charge for a regular meal all I can say is go to HJ's or maccas instead. Bloody horrible. Patheticly small and 1 of the breast "bun" parts was about 1/2 the size of the other. Not a fan.
|
Thanks DM. More reviews please. I'd like to know if your terrible one is true across the board before investing in lunch tomorrow.
|
When i saw a pic in the paper i thought it looked pretty small.
|
Chickens get horemones to grow larger in America so the patties are larger.
True or False ? |
Faceman, can you stop asking questions in every post. We get it, you're a troll.
|
Today Tonight claims the Wagyu foot long is the same Calories as the KFC double-down. It's on TT it must be true! I'd like to know TT came up with those figures. No footlong will come close to 500 cals. Bread alone has to be about 300-400 at a guess. Like everything on TT/ACA it's probably made up or fudged stats to appeal to irrational emotions. |
Door ur startin' to annoy me.
Dont make me shut you. |
nah i think ur mistaken That does not look appetising. Maybe because it looks like came all over the bun in the lower pic. Door ur startin' to annoy me. If you shut the Door then a Window will open. |
Door ur startin' to annoy me. Dont make me shut you. Guess you understand how the rest of us feel now. What is it that makes you annoyed? Are you annoyed by what you feel emotionally? Is it a defense? Do you have too little going on your life to be annoyed by someone on the internet? What is really the problem? What is going on inside your mind? Do you blame society in general for your reaction or mine? Back to Chicken reviews. ;) |

a friend just posted this on FB, when you think about it - it's not really that bad take away all the carbs and add some extra protein |
I just had a zinger one - was pretty small and the sauce was different, tiny bit spicy. I would rather go a zinger works, but i would consider going another zinger double down minus the sauce plus pineapple but it would still fail as it needs a nice bun tbh. And its not cheap, but then again all chicken places are expensive nowadays
|
why cant they cook the f***** bacon FFS!
|
why cant they cook the f***** bacon FFS! I think they microwave it... |
Haha holy f*** Sc00bs I stand corrected. Americans are so f***ed up maen.
|
What would Freud say ? He'd probably say the Double Down tastes better than a Blue Waffle |
Ever eaten KFC in the States? You'd regret it. It's some sweet smelling fat, marinated in chicken. It's all downhill from the first bite I live here now and there is no difference between the chicken we get in Australia and the chicken I have been eating here in the US. I am however pissed off that I can't get a bacon and cheese Zinger and the chips here suck c*** compared to the KFC chips back home. The gravy here is totally different aswell sadly :( I have had a thing for KFC chips and gravy going back as long as I can remember. P.S Still pissed I can't get decent bacon or snags here. Btw Canadian bacon sucks aswell and isn't like ours contrary what some people have said. |
Ever eaten KFC in the States? You'd regret it. It's some sweet smelling fat, marinated in chicken. It's all downhill from the first bite Only once to try the double down when it came out last year. Was ok... mainly had it so I could say I had a double down. I am however pissed off that I can't get a bacon and cheese Zinger and the chips here suck c*** compared to the KFC chips back home. Probably why I haven't eaten KFC over here more than once, compared to once every month or 2 back home. Every now and then a Zinger bacon and cheese combo really hits the spot. |
Every now and then a Zinger bacon and cheese combo really hits the spot. couldn't agree more. Bacon and cheese zinger is easily my favourite burger of all the big chains it's also a great hangover fixer :) |
why is the bacon horrible? does it taste funny or something?
|
Nah scoobs it's just crap. It's these tiny little strips that believe it or not seem to actually manage to have more fat than our bacon has. The bacon here doesn't have that really big round bit on one end either and it doesn't seem as thick.
A rasher of bacon here just doesn't even come close to a standard one in Australia. Probably the best way I can explain it is this. When you go to cook a standard piece of bacon in Australia you have to cut the sucker in half to fry it up. Well here they already cut it in half for you and gave you the s*** end with f*** all meat on it. Belive it or not thats how all the bacon here is. It's like it's all been made specially for making bacon and cheese burgers or some such s***. Sorry.... /end rant |
Sorry for this little bit of thread hijacking but it's a thread about food so this won't be to off topic.
Some of you would of seen me in this and prior threads bagging out the US in reguards to a few things food related. Not to mention a number of other things I won't go into. Some of you might think wtf are you doing there if things piss you off that much and rightly so. So I am just going to square things up a fraction with some positive stuff that I love over here. This little list is in no particular order. Food and drink 1) Pickles ... f*****g great awesome pickles. They have a massive range of these little green bastards and some of them are so good it is mind boggling. 2) Corn ... Corn on the cob to be exact. I have no idea why there is a difference but the corn I eat here is the sweetest juiciest I have ever eaten. 3)Cherry Coke from Sonic.... I can't really tell you much about it other than it is my soft drink of choice here and by a very long way. 4)Deer meat ... Specifically the Deer I hunt myself, I have also learned to skin and cut them up now so I won't go hungry :) 5)IHOP ... International House of Pancakes whats not to love about pancakes and a place that primarily seems to focus on breakfast type meals. 6)Shoguns Japanese steakhouse.... Chain restaurant that specializing in hibachi-style dining they also happen to make the best fried rice I have ever eaten. There are many more things but I think those 6 kind of even up the score. I guess I b**** about things that are pretty basic back home that I miss, like a good meat pie. Btw yanks have zero clue as to what a meat pie is, well at least all the ones I have met anyway. :) last edited by Taipan at 04:50:22 30/Mar/11 |
i thought the idea of a bun was that you dont get your hands greazy.. if its not the case.. lets do away with bread altogether!
lately i have had a thing for chicken burgers so i might give this a crack |
1) Pickles ... f*****g great awesome pickles. They have a massive range of these little green bastards and some of them are so good it is mind boggling. Seconded! My household bought a jumbo jar of pickles from Costco the size of a bowling ball we thought would last for months... It lasted 3 weeks cause everyone was just eating them as snacks :P There must've been 100 pickles in there. |
yeah ive been gettin into pickles aswell lately, gurkins n s*** too.
F*** they are good, same with c***tail onions mmmm |
Mordecai, my stomach just went queasy after looking at that donut looking burger in a pile of grease & oil... jesus
|
If you haven't watched thr movie food Inc yet, I'd give it a watch especialy if your in America :)
Now, to go try this horrid thing for lunch or not. |
Went by a KFC around lunchtime today, everyone was ordering these things. Plus, they had two moderately skanky uni students hired to dress up in denim shorts that were barely shorts and striped full-length leggings/gumboots and hand out samples of crushers.
(Edit: This was opposite the uni campus). |
yeah food inc is pretty f***ed, same with the corporation
|
Trying the zinger one as I'm typing. Looks wise it's a mess, but it's damn tasty! As I went through the drive through and the manager repeated my order back to me she said "So that's two heart attacks, large chips..."
|
Nobody noticed what that pic i posted looks like ?
Its subliminal advertising. |
Nobody noticed what that pic i posted looks like ? i think most people just automatically skip your posts. |
Its bad luck not to read my posts.
|
What can i say i had one of these today the Zinger version.. dam nothing to looking at but dam i f***en love it.. with large chips and drink worked a charm and dam it was easy to eat while driving =D
|
Why is the zinger so much worse than the original?
|
yuck.
twice the heart burn, twice as hungry 20 minutes later. take away all the carbs and add some extra protein i think the buns are mainly sugar. i think the chicken is mostly fat. only thing worse than kfc is red rooster imo. enjoying 2 for 1 pasta from earth and sea tonight !!!!!!! |
do you eat it with a knife and fork like a Snickers bar ?
|
enjoying 2 for 1 pasta from earth and sea tonight !!!!!!! Depending on the serving size, that's probably just as "unhealthy" as the double down, FYI. |
gets you more wasted if you push it up your anus
|
6 pages and no mention of this? Shame guys, shame...
|
If you have ever seen the cable TV show Man v's food he has something like that on almost every episode Eorl. That video does give you a good idea of how piss weak the bacon is over here.
|
2) Corn ... Corn on the cob to be exact. I have no idea why there is a difference but the corn I eat here is the sweetest juiciest I have ever eaten. I'm fairly sure the US uses corn syrup as a sweetner for softdrinks/soda etc whereas in Aus we use Sugarcane. That would probably mean the corn industry is a lot larger there. Drinks like Coke definitely taste slightly different here in North America compared to back home imo, more sickly sweet. |
That is correct. Corn is the #1 primary crop in the USA. As a result, the wretched High Fructose corn syrup infests almost everything you put in your mouth.
At least you can still buy glass bottles of Coke - these contain sugarcane-based Coke, manufactured in Mexico. (but then, Coke here is 'Classic Coke' - Australia's flavour is what was known here as 'New Coke' and universally panned in the country) Food-wise, aussie versions of fast food just taste better all around than in the US. KFC, BK, you name it. That said, there's a few things I'd miss if I moved back home; In-n-Out Burger, Red Robin and Chipotle to name a few.. |
Another thing I miss here is traditional Fanta... I can't find any orange flavour here... all the stores here in North Van only have:
Grape Tangerine Clear Creaming Soda Pineapple was a kickass flavour too but I can't find that here anywhere either :( Nestea in fountain machines (especially free at work) is totally awesome though! |

Corn is the #1 primary crop in the USA. As a result, the wretched High Fructose corn syrup infests almost everything you put in your mouth. Yeah, the 'throwback' drinks (e.g. mountain dew throwback) are so much better. They make a point of advertising that they are made with REAL SUGARCANE SUGAR! Which tastes so much better than the corn syrup versions, but I guess it comes down to climate and what they can grow in the US as to why they use the corn syrup. Also side note: mountain dew has one of the highest caffeine contents of the major soft drinks over here. My memory is that back home it doesn't have any caffeine (?) because manufacturers aren't allowed to add caffeine to non-cola soft drinks. Maybe someone that actually knows what they're talking about could tell me if I'm right or just speaking bulls*** on that one. Another thing I miss here is traditional Fanta... I can't find any orange flavour here I found Orangette which is one of the better soft drinks over here, but I think that might only be at Walmart? |
Food-wise, aussie versions of fast food just taste better all around than in the US. KFC, BK, you name it. That might be your personal opinion because it sure isn't mine. There are a few things that taste better in Australia but for the most part there is no difference as far as I am concerned. Personally I think Big Mac's taste better here because they seem to have a slightly more grilled flavour to them. KFC chicken tastes no different to the stuff we get back home in Australia however I don't think I have ever had a Whopper here in the US thats as good as one back home. I tend to drink a hell of a lot more coke here than I do back in Australia but thats only because I can't find any decent ice coffee here. I am a huge huge huge Ice coffee addict and the only stuff I can find here is this Starbucks s*** that so watered down it tastes like crap. On the up side they do have haagen dazs coffee icecream in every supermarket and it's frigging awesome. I tend to eat alot more subway here than back home aswell. It's just as good and quite a bit cheaper here than in Australia. Last month was Februany month at Subway where all footlongs were $5 for the entire month :) They make a point of advertising that they are made with REAL SUGARCANE SUGAR I have never seen this I have however seen advertising on TV where they tell people there is no difference between Corn and Sugarcane which I disagree with. You know it doesn't even need to be a difference in the sugar to make soft drinks taste difference. All it takes is for them to be drawing their water from a different location and it'll taste different to somewhere else. last edited by Taipan at 08:34:26 31/Mar/11 |
I tend to eat alot more subway here than back home aswell. It's just as good and quite a bit cheaper here than in Australia. I'm the opposite. For years we would get an awesome UQ student discount at the St Lucia subway (stopped doing that a few years ago), so I would get subway once or more a week. Over here there are so many better sub places though, so I'm getting subs even more often but subway much much less. |
I have never seen this I have however seen advertising on TV where they tell people there is no difference between Corn and Sugarcane Yeah I haven't seen the throwback drinks advertised much, but my roommates found it last year, thought it was much better and put me onto the stuff: Link Edit: P.S. You can get it in stores, not just online/amazon... last edited by Chakas at 08:44:31 31/Mar/11 |
I'll have to keep an eye out for that it might make for an interesting comparison. On the topic on soft drinks have you noticed that the cans here are 50ml smaller here than back in Au?
|
finally? it's like the OP makes out that all of us STARVING ZOMBIES were just dragging our feet on the spot outside of the KF doors that aren't automatically opening until the invasion occurs when the menu is updated
are you picking up what the Kernel is putting double down? lol f*** no |
Why would you be at an NZ airport?
|
Isn't that where all the cool kids hang out these days?
|
I'll have to keep an eye out for that it might make for an interesting comparison. On the topic on soft drinks have you noticed that the cans here are 50ml smaller here than back in Au? Yep, tripped me out when I first got here. US/Canada : Australia 591ml : 600ml - common bottled drink size 355ml : 375ml - common can size beer/soda Their spirits/liquor bottle sizes are also different although you can get 700ml too. 1L, 1.14L, 2L etc, spirits are way cheaper here too from what I've seen and the sheer variety of different brands of beer blew me away... theres so many! I beleive it's to do with original sizing in imperial, ounces etc. Like referring to a bottle as a 40 of beer or whatever. Up here in Canuckland Mountain Dew is non caffienated but I reckon you'd be able to find some that is without too much trouble. Or just pop over the border for your fix :P |
Why would you be at an NZ airport? Mate went to LA last year and had a three hour stop over in Auckland. Same deal I would say. |
Only cheap bastards fly Oz-US via NZ. Non-stop is the only way to travel. :D
Corn is grown pretty much everywhere. Cane requires a specific climate. As it happens, virtually the entire mainland is occupied so hence, corn. Lots of corn. More corn than is needed, but the US govt continues to protect and subsidise the intdustry, paying farmers to keep growing the stuff. So we have this horrible syrup in everything. The ads on television are a reaction to the backlash against high fructose corn syrup. The ads are largely false. Also, High Fructose Corn Syrup is a known digestive irritant to abut 50% of the human population. Ever wonder why IBS is high in this country? |
i hate lots of american chocolate/candy because they use HFCS in it. makes it taste like ass.
|
I hate KFC in Belfast and it was s***, chicken was dried and the chips were like soggy chips you'd get from the fish and chipper.
|
i hate lots of american chocolate/candy because they use HFCS in it. makes it taste like ass. Actually, the sour/burnt milk taste is because of the regulation that the FDA have on the ratio of sugar to milk to cocoa. That, and during the chocolate wars, the US manufacturers (Mars and Hershey) said to the European manufacturers that Americans liked that taste and they stuck with it. Naturally, the Euros laughed at them. :) |
I had KFC in Vietnam and they were the biggest nastiest chicken pieces i have ever seen in my life. Absolutely ENORMOUS. Didn't come out well on the other end either : /
|
I hate KFC in Belfast and it was s***, chicken was dried and the chips were like soggy chips you'd get from the fish and chipper. You are going to the wrong fish and chip shop if you are getting soggy chips. One place I would recommend (probably way out of your way though) is the fish and chip shop in Olympic Village. Best chips I have had except homemade ones. Bloke cooks them in rice bran oil and they are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. |
Taiwan's KFC has these egg tarts
http://pacejmiller.wordpress.com/2010/01/22/kfcs-portuguese-egg-tarts/ http://pacejmiller.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/kfc-egg-tarts.jpg?w=800&h=600 Also this is someone else's picture, but I've seen a four floor KFC too. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_KAmSVaFqMHQ/S0HueGwkpNI/AAAAAAAAAIU/BokcI577YKE/s1600/CIMG1869.JPG last edited by scuzzy at 12:17:53 31/Mar/11 |
High Fructose Corn Syrup is a known digestive irritant to abut 50% of the human population OMFG!! I had no idea this was the case. Jesus frigging christ dude you might just of helped me out a ton and made my life a whole lot more bearable. On all my trips to the US I have suffered pretty annoying stomach issues. They usually show up the worst if I am out eating and I happen to be given coke to drink. I had already worked out that coke was part of the issue (which I have no trouble with at home in AU) but to the extent of which it was the problem. Now given that little gem of info from you I might actually be able to sort out my eating and get back to being normal again. Thanks mate you are a frigging legend. So thanks Creepy :) i hate lots of american chocolate/candy I'll second that, American chocolate it f*****g s***house. To me it simply tastes like they watered it down plus used something less than full cream milk. You can't explain this to an American either because they are used to it they figure everyone has the same or should have it the same. Plus they have this disgusting habit of mixing ti with f*****g peanut butter.... f*****g gross. |
Reeses Peanut butter bars are f*****g grouse, anyone who disagrees fails at chocolate.
|
Real Chocolate and Compound Chocolate are very different.
You can easily tell the difference in a side by side test. I actually prefer Carob but its really hard to find. |
Reeses Peanut butter bars are f*****g gross, anyone who disagrees fails at chocolate. Fixed Btw the only failure would be on the part of manufacturer. Failure to satisfy my tastes with something that doesn't taste like s***. Oh and you can't fail at eating it only making it and this is exhibited very well by American Chocolate manufacturers on a daily basis. |
I actually prefer Carob but its really hard to find. Look around the health food section of most shops, it's everywhere. |
Yeah Ive asked at the Chermside stores and no go.
|
Had me one of these today at Myers Center in Queen St, tasted okay, was slightly smaller then I thought. Don't think I'll be eating another one anytime soon though, was very very greasy. If they had it on a bun, it would probably be better. Also why does no fast food cook their bacon? I want crispy bacon dammit.
|
you dont say ? hmmm
Crispy Bacon ? OH YEAHHHH BABY I think the rest of this thread needs to be dedicated to Bacon. http://theiconoclast.info/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/bacon1.jpg |
is that american style bacon? it looks f*****g disgusting.
|
yeah there is more fat than bacon in that photo
|
Yep thats the stuff scoobs thats what these people over here think is normal and (wash my mouth out with soap) good. Worst bacon on earth no doubt about it.
|
what sort of s*** food must those pigs be getting fed that they put on that much layer? do not want.
|
Yeah Ive asked at the Chermside stores and no go. I mean in shops like Coles. I always have a walk through the health food section and look at carob but it seems damn expensive and the same calories as chocolate. |
lol thats just insane, why?!@#@#
i tried the double down today, pretty average. i mean really the chicken isn't that great without sauce anyway, and i dont think the BBQ sauce does it any justice, its much nicer in a kernel burger etc. I tried original, i might try a zinger one, but our local store tends to burn the ass off zinger pieces so you it would be the toughest burger. seems to be $11.45 up here in NQ for the val meal (regular), much prefer getting the burger/wings/chips/drink combo whatever its called. |
Coles eh ?
Ill have a look. Carob powder in Milk is really nice. I used to get Honey and Carob milkshakes at Westfield Strathpine ages ago. |
See thats how bad the bacon is in Canada and the US they actually have to wrap it around a small pig in order for it actually have any meat.
|
I'm told there's a deli downtown that does real bacon rashes. I have to investigate. Reminds me - I need to call the bakery near here that does REAL hot cross buns, and not those horrible ones with custard crosses.
Seriously, this country is fail at food. Glad to have helped you Taipan. More reading here. I had my numbers wrong (it's 1 in 3 people, not 1 in 2 - so around 100,000,000 americans suffer from this alone). Yet they keep pumping it out due to the insane surplus... |
It is possible to find normal Aussie style bacon here with the round bit but you usually have to go to a butchers and it's called back bacon and is expensive.
Those s***** strips are expensive enough already and I can't be assed going to a butcher. I tell you what is f*****g awesome here though... fis** I don't even like seafood either! The salmon, steelhead and chinook are to die for. My housemate is big on fishing and we have a deep freeze chest in the house crammed full of fish he caught in summer and fall. He baked some with a nice mayo+hot sauce glaze and I straight up said nah don't worry I'll cook my own dinner cause I HATE grilled/baked fish back in Oz. He persuaded me to try some and I'll be damned if it didn't rival a nice chicken breast (which is easily my fav type of meat). I eat fish now on a regular basis and it has actually redeemed seafood for me in a big way! |
Never really had much of KFC back home, maybe the chips when i was high school and sneak out for a drive on lunch. Over here in Amsterdam though you get bored of the food sometimes and I go for the 6 hotwing meal not a bad deal.
|
It is possible to find normal Aussie style bacon here with the round bit but you usually have to go to a butchers and it's called back bacon and is expensive. A butchers you say? I really don't think Americans know what a butchers is. Little Rock is a city of 750,000 people give or take a few and I have seen one butchers in my travels. I could no doubt find one or a few by just looking on the net of course. You guys know whats it's like back home you have a bakery and a butchers in every group of shops. Well I still haven't seen a standalone bakery here in Little Rock and as I said only one butchers. The major supermarket chains here pretty much have everyone completely bent over. Lastnight I spent a little bit of time looking to see if I could find where I can get some copha from. I didn't realize it but Copha is Australian and the closest thing to it here in the US is straight up coconut oil. Believe it or not I was going to make some chocolate crackles which I was going to give to my missus and he mother. The next thing after that I'll aim to make a Pavlova though I'll have to get Pav magic from a speciality Aussie store in Texas. |
its much nicer in a kernel burger etc. FFS learn to spell, its a colonel burger. |
Bit of a thread revival because of a few related developments:
1) Getting back to the drinks with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in the US, today for the first time since last summer I saw Pepsi throwback (i.e. with real cane sugar) on the shelves. So there's another option to avoid the HFCS. 2) Last night we made a late night run to Denny's (that was our first and biggest mistake) specifically for a round of maple bacon sundaes. Not anywhere near as bad as I expected, but again much like the double down it is something I'll probably only try once just to say I had one. In this case the american style bacon was actually a good thing, because the crispy bacon was an ok contrast to the icecream. I'm guessing the texture of normal bacon in icecream would have been more problematic. |
Bacon (salt/savoury) + anything sweet, is an abomination.
My pancakes+syrup must ALWAYS be served separate from by bacon+eggs. >:| |
My pancakes+syrup must ALWAYS be served separate from by bacon+eggs. >:| nope, thats wrong; i always have bacon on my pancakes with syrup, always. |
Maple syrup and pork sausage is really good well. I know it sounds wrong but give it a try. I got into it while in Canada years ago.

Bacon on a pancake?
Can't say I've ever had the two together but if I did I think they'd stay seperated, I just can't see them getting on. last edited by mission at 10:31:09 16/Apr/11 |
The NRL Footy Show had some Strongmen guy from America.
He eats/drinks the soybean milk + Chicken meat blended milkshake. The Falcon tried it twice but Fatty had one drink and coughed it back up. |
So I was wrong... Tried the Diablo Chicken sub on flatbread at Subway.
It's just a normal cooked chicken pieces with some hot spices... very average to my tastebuds. Much rather have sweet onion chicken terriyaki. Ah well. |
