Got my ass dragged to see this thing. Let me ruin it for you. It is EXACTLY the same premise as the epic Battle Royale however it mixes things up by being worse in every measureable way.

Deaths in the movie: several.
Deaths in the movie that I gave a s*** about: zero
Deaths in the movie that are awesome to watch: zero, pg piece of s***.

In conclusion The Hunger Games is for homosexual men and women. 1 star.

I didn't mind it. It's certainty not as bad as you describe, but it has certainly has been over hyped.

I just found it was a reasonable popcorn movie. GO in with no expectations and you will probably enjoy it. Go in expecting to see a blood bath or something extraordinary and you will be disappointed.

I thought it was a great movie. The only thing I didn't like was your #3.

They didn't really show any of the deaths, swords swinging and they cut to a little bit of blood splatter on the box beside it instead. Even when the wild dogs come out, ripping into flesh, you don't see any blood... cant even see the body they're mauling, just the back of a black dog. Lame.

It's like they made it for the Australian Gaming Market, and had to cut out all the good bits in order to release it here.

Went and saw it last night, and I have to fully disagree with you. It was a good film, not omg awesome, and not as gory as one like yourself seems to want/expected. By the sounds of it you just seemed to hate it and have a bad experience because you were "dragged" along.

The deaths were significant when they needed to be. They didn't need to be over the top, bodies blowing up and people getting stabbed, it wasn't meant to be about that.

Yeah, I just saw it and quite enjoyed it. Didn't really go in with any expectations cos I haven't read the books or anything, but I thought it was pretty good.

I haven't seen that japanese Battle Royale movie, but I don't think this is really trying to copy it, since it was just as much about the districts and the corrupt, decadent society and setting it up for them to rise up and start a new rebellion and stuff. I'd assume thats what sequels are about anyway, given the way it ends.

Not sure why but when violence isnt MA or R rated, i often dont like it. Apart from a few exceptions (avatar, die hard, predator, aliens come to mind) i find M rated violence lacking, especially when if the violence was real it would be brutal. Lord of the rings is an example of where i found the M rated violence lacking. I mean if you're gunna get hacked to death with a sword/axe/whatever, its gunna be graphic and i think its lame not to show it. I know M appeals to a wider audience but to me i find it lacks realism.

Maybe im too used to violent video games and movies but thats a key deciding factor in whether or not i pay to see an action movie @ the cinemas. MA, good chance; M, not likely.

Im not some kind of violence addict either, i thoroughly enjoy horror movies and suspense movies that dont even need to have violence to be enjoyable.

i actually quite enjoyed it. jennifer lawrence was a great leading lady. no, there was bugger all graphic violence, but that didn't surprise me as the books were written for the young adult market, and therefore they wouldn't cut their demographic out by making it too hardcore. however, this aside, i enjoyed it enough to read the books.

that said, i wouldn't mind if they released a directors cut MA15+ version.

I reckon many movies should have a more mature version that is more graphic/violent etc. Surely its not too hard to film a 2 versions of a fight/kill (or even just censor down a single violent version for M rating) and release on DVD or even at the cinemas but with reduced showings. That way the kiddies can see the nice version and guys can go along with their GFs and see some violence while the GF still gets a nice story.

Only thing i thought avatar needed was more violence. Stunning visuals and decent story IMO but the violence was lacking. MA version and i would have been 100% happy.

Therefore not needing to get Government food + Your name in the bowl?

I don't think their name goes back in, from what I understand (once again, just from reading wikipedia so take it all with a grain of salt) is in the second movie s*** starts getting a bit rowdy and districts are getting restless so they host another Hunger Games which is like a "best of" type one and past winners all come back to compete again.

in the second book you find out there's a special hunger games every 25 years called the quarter quell. these games have some sort of theme and are more terrible than the usual ones.

for the first quell, the people of each district had to vote for who they wanted to compete. the second one had twice as many contestants. haymitch won that one. the third quell forced past victors to compete. since katniss was the only female to win for her district, she was automatically chosen. haymitch's name was drawn out for this one, but peter volunteered to go in his place to protect katniss.

You're like Michael Bay or something, but instead of adding explosions to everything, you want to add gore

Movie did a pretty good job of getting the point across imo, without having to show gory deaths. The fact that 16 year old kids were butchering each other with machettes and the crowd was loving it was disturbing and brutal enough to get the point accross, adding gore wouldn't really have achieved anything, wasn't really that sort of movie

Hell yeah. MOAR VIOLENCE/GORE! Im all for explosions too but not when they are stupidly over the top.

I swear ive been desensitised by games/movies to violence as the tamer stuff in M rated TV shows/movies just doesnt cut it. For example - some dude shoots himself in the head and instead of a nice gory closeup, they show a wideshot or even worse, just a simple blood splash on the wall. Lame. Gimme blood, giblets and exit wounds.

the series is good as a whole. the third book is probably the worst because the writer makes katniss really unlikeable and annoying. the second book has a quarter quell hunger games that has winners from previous games competing. how the arena is set out for the quell is kind of cool. very deadly.

they're quick and easy reads, but probably only worth reading if you have nothing else to do.

It's usually annoying in action scenes, but in this movie they did it all the time. Even at the start where there was no action. in what should be one shot of a person sitting on their rocking chair on the porch, they show a close up of the porch, jump to the person, jump to a close up of the flowerpot, all from the position that could have been one frame if they just zoomed out a fraction. it's stupid cinematography. it hurts my head. i'm too old.

Same with the scene with a girl on the bed. all those intro scenes were done like that. It's bad bad bad.

I enjoyed Hunger Games, I thought it was pretty decent - leaving the cinema and having not read the books, I wondered where they could take it with a sequel as they kinda jammed the whole battle royale style "Hunger Games" dealio into the first. Anyway, should be interesting to see what they come up with.

I also enjoyed Battleship. I tried to watch John Carter, my first attempt got me 10 minutes in before turning it off, no lie. The bit where these three old dudes descend from the clouds into a floating butterfly ship to give this wanker some celestial weapon... a bit too much fantasy hocus pocus for me. But due to some uncontrollable circumstances, I recently watched the whole thing and it all kinda came together imo.. I quite liked it.

Yeah, it was super corny, but I just found it hilarious rather than it turning me off the movie. I'm sure it wasn't intended to be hilarious, but it was comedy gold, it was like it parodying itself (even though I'm sure it wasn't).

I got a real Crysis vibe in parts of the movie, I dunno if that was just me, but it felt like they were seriously ripping off Crysis at times to me.

Yeah, there's a lot of rumours it started off as a crysis movie, but they didn't get the rights or something.

I feel sorry for people who can't switch their brains off and enjoy b-grade corny movies, cos that can be a lot of fun. I enjoyed Battleship for what it was; mindless, corny, b-grade fun. Some bits were so bad they were laughable, but thats half the fun!

I struggle with this. I wish i could switch off and enjoy s***** movies but i often just cant do so. Watched human centipede last night and am part way thru pirnaha 3DD and both have made me cringe due to numerous flaws. Im certainly no movie critic but some s*** just really erks me.

Rumored for some time, the third chapter of the The Hunger Games trilogy is officially set to be split into two films. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will be released on November 21, 2014 with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 arriving on November 20, 2015.

The first sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is already set for November 22, 2013 and features the return of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones and Woody Harrelson with new roles just announced for Jena Malone and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Francis Lawrence will direct The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, though there's no confirmation yet on whether or not he'll helm the Mockingjay adaptations as well.
