Noticed that HMV at Indooroopilly is selling the Mallrats DVD (as well as a few other decent ones like Con Air and a couple others) for $20, if anyone is interested.

I wish all DVD's were $20-$25, I'd buy them all the time.

Got Shawshank Redemption today for $33.45. About time I owned that.

people might think I am wierd.

I got a retarded shawshank though. The cover slip is like 2mm off to the side. So the spine doesn't quite match up.

Gosh, sometimes I am so anal I surprise myself.

Dogma is pretty good in r4.

But yeah, I was going to order the r1 version of Mallrats before I discovered it was out here. I was a little disappointed by the fact that it didn't have any special features, but for under $19 I can't complain. It just f***en rawks having Mallrats on DVD to watch whenever we want. :) Jason Lee's performance as Brodie in my mind is legendary. :)

How does one go about getting DVD's over from overseas?

I want to start a collection, but I don't want a bunch of ones I will regret owning later, when I find out another country has a better version.

haha, let me guess you had absolutely no idea you would buy so many when you first got a DVD player...

Every DVD player comes with the dvd bug that bites anyone who dares own it.

Do what I did... talk to people you know who know about DVD's, and then wait for one or more of your friends to move to America so they can bring back a couple of DVD's for you when they come back to visit! :)

I've been considering buying from overseas, but never got around to it. A friend of mine knows a place (I have a feeling it's in Canada) that has free delivery to anywhere in the world. You can even browse their catalog online in Australian Dollars. :) Can't remember the site now. :(

Is it worth getting some from overseas?

Know any sites off hand with up to date DVD news?

Like there are a few I want to buy, but there not particuarly special, extra features wise (aside from the movie being awesome) e.g. Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile etc.

-----edit

I wouldn't mind knowing of a release list of DVD's So I know when to resist the urge of buying one, in order to wait for a better version.

American Pie was the one that did it for me. We all sat around Lyco's PC one night and watched it on his DVD drive. The thought of watching a movie of that quality on a pc was quite a novelty at first, but soon wore off. Afterwards, Lyco put on the director's commentry. After watching that for a bit, I decided I wanted needed a DVD drive! This time last year I got sick of having to take my pc into the lounge room and hooking it up to the TV, so I bought a player. By then our collection was well on it's way.

perfect Example!

Batman! I really want that legacy box set (mainly for the first 3, the 4th was very bad, can't wait till aronofsky's version)

However, big problem. I don't want to spend $100 on a box set that with all due respect.. sucks. Nary a special feature to see.

Is there a better one overseas? we shall see..

heh heh heh.

I'm gonna start buying DVD's again when I get my Sansui Dolby Home theatre setup for my b'day.

For some reason, my sony DVD player outputs the sound REALLY f*****g quiet through my TV... so if i wanna watch a movie, I have to turn it up to 100 volume level to hear the quiet parts... then a loud part comes on (like an explosion or something) and BAM! I am deaf :D.

The next DVD I'm buying is Duets... I sound like a f***head, but i appreciate the way that the ACTORS are the people singing all the songs in that movie! f*****g talented people if you ask me. plus it's light hearted :D
