It's been a while since we've heard anything about the Warcraft movie, not since it was confirmed that at least Uwe Boll wouldn't be getting anywhere near the director's chair.

Today, in the lead-up to this weekend's Comic-con even in the U.S., film site Variety have confirmed that Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spidermand, Drag Me To Hell) is now attached to direct Warcraft, a film based on the ridiculously popular online role playing game and Blizzard fantasy series.
The plan is for Raimi to supervise development of "Warcraft" and shoot the picture after he completes work on "Spider-Man 4," which gets under way early next year for Columbia Pictures.

"Warcraft" is "emblematic of the kind of branded, event films for which our studio is best known," said Warner Bros. Pictures Group president Jeff Robinov. The deal revives a long-dormant pact made by Legendary and Blizzard for a film adaptation of the game.

"At its core, 'Warcraft' is a fantastic, action-packed story," Raimi said in a statement.
Warcraft now joins Prince of Persia as another videogame property actually getting some serious big budget Hollywood treatment, let's hope at least one of them works out and breaks the (crappy) mold for game to movie conversions.

Nothing wrong with the WarCraft franchise from a creative perspective, although Blizzard likes to butcher it on a whim sometimes. Should hopefully make a decent flick.

i would think that in order not to make a pisspoor boring moofie, they will have to make it absolutely nothing like the game

Well if they're gonna be making a movie of a game I play I'd like to see it done well. Not like most of the game to movie conversions that turn out like s***.

Isnt it a movie about Warcraft, not world of warcraft, so it realy could be following any storyline, they could even be doing the story from warcraft 1

It's likely to be based upon the main comic, meaning Varian's story in Kalimdor.

Probably 100x more back story and 'storyline' then FPS's and other such things.

Yeah Grom is awesome. Why don't they get Peter Jackson to do it, That would be epic of course. Him and his studio could easily make something like this. Although you might find it could turn into a B Grade movie if not handled carefully.

Warcraft has a ridiculous amount of lore and backstory. Whether or not it's any good is debatable, but there's certainly enough there to write a movie.

I doubt I could take this seriously if it's live action rather than CG.

But the question is, which Sam Raimi will be directing?

The awesome, cool, made-the-Evil-Dead-movies Sam Raimi?

Or the I-made-The-Gift-and-Spider-Man-3-movies Sam Raimi?

Well, it also has the dude who produced The Dark Knight, so hopefully it's the good Sam Raimi that shines through. It'll be interesting to see what the story ends up being and if it's animated or real life.

I can see this movie doing quite well after reading through the official Blizzard press release.

First off is Sam Raimi. Sure he's done a few crappy movies but he's also done a lot of good ones as well. Second, it's being done thru Legendary Pictures. They've done Batman Begins, Dark Knight, 300, Watchmen, The Hangover and a heap of other hits. And lastly Chris Metzen, Blizzard Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Creative Development will be onboard doing the story. And he's had a major influence on story and artwork with Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo.

If there's one thing I know about Blizzard, they hold their company in the highest regard and they're not about to pump out some lame-ass script to rush a movie out. Whatever they end up doing will be worth going to see.

The movie will go for 5 hours and you'll come out still, wearing the same clothes as you entered. Maybe 1 or 2 people might have new t-shirts on.

Last time I read anything about it it sounded very alliance driven. I hope it's not.

Posted 02:35pm 23/7/09
Well, its a warcraft movie, not a WoW movie, so it could be starting right back at the start before there even is an Alliance.

do you think that sometime in the movie you'll get

what's really annoying is he's only upto page 9 for the evil dead 4 script..

rather see ED4 than a warcraft or spiderman 4..
