Bethesda Softworks has revealed that Human Head Games are hard at work on a sequel to the critically acclaimed Prey, which is set to release sometime in 2012. They also point out that the game is being built using id Tech 5, which should help them realise their gruesome vision of an alien world.

"We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2,” said Chris Rhinehart, project lead, via press release. "Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. We’re excited to show gamers the title we have been working on and hope they will be as excited by this title as we are.”

A new Facebook page for the game was also launched with practically no new info, though we're told to keep an eye on it "in the coming days" for more.

Haha cool. Prey was pretty damn out there in the gameplay, the sequel could be interesting.

yeah, I really enjoyed Prey a lot. Multiplayer sucked, and they didn't capitalise enough on their use of portals etc, but it was a lot more enjoyable than other games out there at the time

First Prey was id Tech 4. Really interested to see what another studio can do with id Tech 5, as other studios have almost always been able to make better games out of id tech than id themselves.

Only really got a chance to play the Prey demo but I did enjoy it. Prey was one of many many games on my "to play" list that never got played.

Here's an image from Swedish gaming mag Reactor which features a very different looking Tommy from the original.

Someone at Bethesda sure seems to have a hard-on for print mags. So many of their recent big reveals have been exclusively fed through the crusty old paper media.

It's still well worth digging up, Steam forums say Valve ran out of cd keys and couldn't/wouldn't get more so they've taken it down but Direct2Drive seems to have it for $15

The space combat bit where you're running around on the big asteroid was pretty cool I thought.
I hope there's more of that. :D
