Warner Bros. Interactive and developer Arrowhead Game Studios have today announced the HD re-imagining of arcade classic Gauntlet for PC/Steam, as part of an ongoing WB Games Vault initiative.

Retaining its classic dungeon crawling, click-them-to-death structure, the game will also include its original co-op gameplay of classes warrior, wizard, valkyrie and elf as well as the top-down camera view. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios will also be adding in procedurally generated dungeons, some unique playstyles and of course the original art style with a HD makeover.
"To us at Arrowhead, Gauntlet is one of the most defining games from our childhoods, and it's amazing to be able to work with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on a brand new version,” said Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios. “Gauntlet is one of the original and best known video game properties and we are looking forward to creating a fresh, yet true to the original, take on a multiplayer masterpiece.”
Gauntlet will be the first title in the WB Games Vault portfolio, which will provide Warner Bros. with an opportunity to access emerging talent within the game development community and match unique skills and experience with their extensive library of properties.

Gauntlet will be arriving on Steam for PC come Winter this year.

I'm going to set my expectations low, so that I am not disappointed if it's mediocre and very happy if it turns out great :P We shall see!

I cannot recommend 'Hammerwatch' enough to people.

It is /exactly/ what I want from a Gauntlet 'reboot'.
That being said however, I'll keep an eye on this.
If it comes out @ $15-25 it has my interest, but if it launches @ $40-50+, I don't think so.
