Where in his latest post, BioWare head Casey Hudson notes that story plays a major role in what many see mainly as a multiplayer shared-world shooter. Stating, "People are skeptical of the idea of story in an online game, and for good reason". Adding, "With Anthem, we aim to integrate the fun of multiplayer missions with your friends, and single-player story agency and characters, into a connected narrative experience".

It's no secret that for those that know the name BioWare, one of the key things that comes to mind is story. With development on Anthem dating as far back as 2012 - in creating a new universe for players to explore with others it set out to so so with a game "full of BioWare quality story and character".

Here's the Anthem story trailer which debuted at the most recent The Game Awards.

In terms of Anthem's future it's a universe that is set to expand and grow with new events and narrative milestones. At launch it will feature a "substantial story" akin to a rich single-player experience. In regards to player feedback and reception BioWare plans to shape the future of the world and its characters in addition to what it is that constitutes in-game quests and activities. "The launch of Anthem is not the end," Casey says. "It’s the beginning of an ongoing story in which you are a critical element. If there’s something you want more of, we can build it. If something isn’t right, let us know. And the story itself will unfold over time based on how you play the game."

With Anthem exactly one month out from release, here's the planned roll-out - which begins with a closed demo this weekend.
  • If you have pre-ordered or are an active EA Access subscriber, you’ll be able to participate in the VIP demo starting January 25.
  • Then, on February 1, the open demo goes live and everyone will be able to spend the weekend playing Anthem.
  • If you subscribe to Origin Access Premier you’ll be able to start playing the full game through Early Access on February 15. Or you can play the first 10 hours on the same day through the Play First Trial.
  • And finally, our worldwide launch date is February 22.
