Ahead of a full reveal at Gamescom next week, Wargaming is teasing the long-awaited arrival of submarines into World of Warships. The initial test phase will include four subs from the US Navy and the German Kriegsmarine in what will no doubt present a brand new type of vessel and style of Naval warfare. In that the submarine's home is underwater, sneaking around with a periscope sitting above the water line to see what's up.

Wargaming has released the following teaser image showcasing just that. In a "look behind you, there's a massive Battleship approaching" sort of way.

“World of Warships has continually evolved with new gameplay mechanics, innovative game modes and rich content since its release,” said Artur Plociennik, Executive Producer of World of Warships. “The uniqueness of submarines poses very interesting design challenges for our team, which we hope to be able to turn into novel new gameplay tactics for our players and to make online naval combat more exciting than ever before. We are always looking for new ways how to make our audience happy and we’re aiming to fulfil every player’s fantasy of WW2 submarine operations.”

By their very nature submarines will probably look and feel very different to the four current classes found in the game - destroyers, cruisers, battleships and aircraft carriers. And potentially change up the tactics and overall battle strategy in a massive way. How will they be spotted and dealt with? We're keen to see how they look in action, so stay tuned as we'll be bringing you full coverage. Once World of Warships' submarines emerge from the depths that is.
