After news broke that Sony would be once again skipping E3 this year - presumably to have its own PlayStation 5 specific event prior to June - many were left wondering if E3 as the place to showcase new console hardware was set to become a thing of the past. In a couple of Tweets made overnight, head of Xbox Phil Spencer confirms that Microsoft and Xbox will be back at E3 this year.

No doubt with the launch line-up of games for the upcoming Xbox Series X console. "Our team is hard at work on E3, and we look forward to sharing with all who love to play what's ahead of us," Phil wrote. "Our artform has consistently been propelled by the cross-section of creativity and technical progress. 2020 is a milestone year in that journey for Team Xbox."

With both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 releasing later this year, both companies have no doubt planned when and where they'll lift the lid n things like hardware specs, pricing, availability, and games. With Xbox at E3 we may have to wait until June to hear more about Microsoft's next-gen console. And with Sony bowing out of E3 this year, odds are we'll be hearing more about the PlayStation 5 in the coming months.
