When
Valve launched its Dota 2 card game
Artifact in 2018 it didn't quite capture an audience whilst also garnering some criticism for its monetisation model. Last year
came word that the development team was working on a reboot called Artifact 2.0, but now it looks like that's, well, off the table too.
As per
the update, Valve writes, "It's now been about a year and a half since the current Artifact team began work on a reboot in earnest. While we're reasonably satisfied we accomplished most of our game-side goals, we haven't managed to get the active player numbers to a level that justifies further development at this time."
Adding, "We've made the tough decision to stop development on the Artifact 2.0 Beta."
With this news both Artifact Classic and Artifact Foundry (which is Artifact 2.0 Beta) are now available. In terms of the reboot it will remain unfinished with Valve not planning to release any additional gameplay updates -- though it's now available for all. Classic remains free-to-play too, with players getting all cards and the monetisation for buying card packs removed.

GAME TRIVIA - Did You Know?
While it's common knowledge
Valve has canned plenty of projects in the past, it's only more recently come to light that a number of titles where erased from the whiteboard due to a single problem --
Source. Actually,
Source 2 to be clear. The game engine was never finished, but games such as an open-world iteration of
Left 4 Dead, an open-world RPG and the ever-topical
Half-Life 3 were all being built with the unfinished tech, which led to their demises.
