With the
Blizzard Arcade Collection featuring a trio of classics alongside bonus behind the scenes features and definitive edition-style updates -- these being Lost Vikings, Rock N Roll Racing, and Blackthorne -- the collection is getting two more. With a new update adding
Lost Vikings 2 and
RPM Racing.
The latter was the first game released by the newly formed Silicon & Synapse -- and the precursor to Rock N Roll Racing. Lost Vikings 2 of course is a sequel to the original, and one of the games that really put Blizzard on the map in the eyes of players everywhere.
Not a sequel, but a prequel, RPM Racing is a time capsule preserving the seed that would eventually bloom into Rock N Roll Racing. The basics are all there: isometric perspective, different cars to choose from, the ability to make modular upgrades to your vehicle, career progress save functionality, and plenty of vehicular mayhem. Check out RPM Racing to get a look at one of the very first games produced by Blizzard.
The sequel to The Lost Vikings, Lost Vikings 2 once again finds our three heroes Erik, Baleog, and Olaf taken far from their home and thrust into a new adventure. Tapping into new abilities and joined by two new allies, the werewolf Fang and the dragon Scorch, on their quest to find their way back home, our Viking heroes must overcome challenging puzzles that put a fresh spin on the original game’s design.
Both titles have been added via a free update to the collection, which also includes some new bonus goodies in the Museum section -- a Design Documents gallery featuring initial concepts and a look at the earliest days of Blizzard.
In addition to the above a Streamer Mode for Rock N Roll Racing has been added to let players stream with the classic MIDI version of the soundtrack -- which still rocks.
