With the state of supply and demand in the PC gaming space, it's worth remembering that plans for new graphics cards are measured in years. So even though it's still hard to find the flagship AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, its debut was in 2020. Which means the RDNA 3 powered Radeon RX 7800 XT is coming in 2022.

The announcement came as part of a recent financial call for AMD where in addition to a massive rise of 68% in revenue for 2021 over 2020, we got word on the next-gen of next-gen graphics from AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su. Where she also addressed the supply and demand issue.

"Demand for our product is very strong," Lisa Su said. "We look forward to another year of significant growth and share gains as we ramp our current products and launch our next wave of Zen 4 CPUs and RDNA 3 GPUs. We have also made significant investments to secure the capacity needed to support our growth in 2022 and beyond."

It's worth noting that supply issues haven't been limited to the GPU space, as AMD's Ryzen CPU range has also been affected. "We've been working on the supply chain really for the last four or five quarters," adds Lisa Su. "In regards to [the] 2022 supply environment, we've made significant investments in wafer capacity, as well as substrate capacity and back-end capacity. We feel very good about our progress in the supply chain to meet the 2022 guidance. And our goal is, frankly, to have enough supply to satisfy the demand out there."

Going by the the traditional hardware cycle we've seen for major architectural overhauls in the GPU space, this puts RDNA 3 powered graphics cards on track for a late 2022 launch. In terms of what RDNA 3 brings to the table, it's reported that these new Radeon cards will feature 5nm chips over RDNA 2's 7nm - and will present another major step forward in terms of performance.

And with the assumption that NVIDIA will also debut its next-gen RTX offering this year, we're in for another impressive performance showdown.
