Mortal Kombat 1 recently got announced, and its a reboot of sorts that sees fresh versions of Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-zero, Raiden, Johnny Cage, and more take to the fighting arena in a new blood-soaked cinematic tale. Toiday's extended gameplay trailer is all kinds of awesome as it showcases plenty of actual gameplay, real-time cinematics, the new Kameo system, and of course - a couple of Fatalities.

Old-school fans of the franchise will get a kick out of Kano's classic heart-ripping Fatality.

The Kameo system, in particular, looks very interesting as it allows you to seemingly call in a secondary character/fighter to help with the slicing and bone-crunching action. Everything here looks slick, from the animation to the visual effects - impressive stuff from NetherRealm Studios. Check it out.

The trailer also provides a fresh look at several legendary fighters, along with narrative hints about their backgrounds that offer a glimpse into what the Mortal Kombat 1 story holds. Liu Kang has restarted history by crafting a New Era for the sake of peace, while Mileena, twin sister of Kitana and rightful heir to Outworld’s throne, has been infected by a dreaded and lethal disease. Lin Kuei warriors and brothers Scorpion and Sub-Zero fight for the future of the clan, while Earthrealm champions Raiden and Kung Lao fight for family and honour. Johnny Cage, who is more concerned with staying relevant in the eyes of his fans, fights for his own vanity. The main roster is also joined by Kenshi Takahashi, who is on a quest to retrieve the revered sword, Sento, and restore his family’s name.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) on September 19, 2023. For those that pre-order you'll receive Shang Tsung as a playable character, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S orders also set to receive access to the Mortal Kombat 1 Pre-Order Beta in August 2023.
